If you need a filling, you have many choices today. The most common material is a composite resin material. It is often called a “white filling”, and looks natural and matches the color and contour of the tooth.
There are direct fillings and indirect fillings. An indirect filling is placed when there is a large amount of tooth structure needing to be replaced. Sometimes, to be conservative and if a crown is not needed, an inlay or onlay can be milled while you wait and the restoration is bonded in place.
- For repairing a small cavity, a composite can restore your tooth to shape and function while also mimicking the tooth’s natural shade
- Once complete, your tooth will be free of decay and restored to it’s natural strength and appearance
Another type of filling material is gold. Gold inlays and onlay type fillings are very strong and probably last the longest of all the choices.
Silver amalgam or “mercury” fillings were the only choice many years ago. They last for many years but do not last forever. When they need to be replaced, there are many options today. Dr. Bennett will talk to you about your options and together you will decide which choice is best for you.

My wife and I have been going to Dr. Bennett for over four years now. We both have the highest respect for her and her staff. I have had some very extensive dental work, including an implant and have been more than satisfied. We would both recommend her as a professional and a kind caring person.
I have been a patient of Dr. Bennett’s for over 10 years. When I first met Dr. Bennett, my teeth were struggling. Over subsequent years she has restored my teeth to an earlier conditioning status. Her expertise has only been surpassed by her gentleness and her integrity. I have happily recommended Dr. Bennett to other friends and family because she has always been a wonderful and thoughtful person and professional.
Dr. Bennett has cared for me and my family for several years. She and her staff are part of our health routine. We are seen for what’s needed, on time, in pleasant surroundings, by people who are well trained. Even an appointment for the dreaded filling is friendly, painless, and positive.
Dr. Bennett herself is an artist. She has saved some of my teeth, worked on long ago and failing, with great crowns and perfect color matching.
I would like to say “thank you” to Dr. Bennett and Staff for always being there for me – for my regular check ups and cleanings – for “fixing” my teeth (cavities and crowns) and always being gentle and caring for my needs and comfort. Dr Bennett has been my Dentist from the time that I moved here from Sherwood, Oregon. And, I have been very fortunate to have found her.
One of the hardest things about moving is needing to find a new dentist. We are so fortunate to have found Dr. Bennett five years ago. The office atmosphere is so calm and friendly. Dr. Bennett is so thorough in her exams, suggestions for preventions and craftsmanship that we feel very secure in our dental health.
